What Counts as Direct Deposit

Employer payroll is always the safest method. "Maybe" means some people report it working and it is not guaranteed. Open a row to see the individual reports.

The reports come from Doctor of Credit comment threads, public Reddit posts, and members who told us what happened to their own deposit. Each one is dated where the person gave a date. Read how we check offers.

Reports are attached to the offer, never to your name. Members can log one from their account instead.

Overview

WSECU is currently offering a $500 checking bonus. The core requirement is $1,000+ in qualifying direct deposits each month for 3 consecutive months. The eligible account has no monthly maintenance fee documented in the catalog.

Pros

+$500 cash bonus
+No monthly maintenance fee
+No documented hard credit pull
+90-day qualification window

Cons

-Geographic restrictions apply
-ChexSystems-sensitive approval

Notes

Receive $1,000+ in direct deposits EACH month for 3 consecutive months. Each period must stand on its own; front-loading one large deposit does not qualify. Allow approximately 104 days for the bonus to post after qualification.

How This Compares to Other Bonuses

WSECU's $500 offer is closest in headline value to Bank of America's $500 checking bonus. Compare the direct-deposit requirement, geographic eligibility, fees, approval sensitivity, and payout timing, not only the advertised amount.

Frequently Asked Questions

WSECU currently advertises $500. The principal requirement is $1,000+ in qualifying direct deposits each month for 3 consecutive months.

Does the WSECU bonus require direct deposit?

The tracked estimate is about 104 days after you satisfy the requirements.

Full Requirements

Open a Cash Back Checking account, set up a direct deposit of $1,000 or more PER MONTH inside the first 90 days, and make 25 eligible debit card purchases in the same 90 days. The deposit must be an electronic payroll, government benefit or retirement payment. The $500 lands within 14 days of you finishing all three, and the account has to stay open and in good standing to get it. NO PROMO CODE IS NEEDED for this one. Eligible card purchases are taps, chip inserts, swipes, manual entries and online or subscription purchases; cash advances, balance transfers, checks, transfers between accounts, ACH transfers, ATM deposits and Bill Pay do NOT count. WSECU is running a SECOND, SMALLER offer at the same time: a $300 version on the same account that does require opening within 14 days of joining and locks out anyone who closed a WSECU checking account in the last 24 months. Those two conditions belong to the $300 offer and are not stated on the $500 one, so do not assume they apply here, but they are worth knowing before you pick which link to open from.

Soft PullYes

Reported as very ChexSystems sensitive, so most churners may be denied.

Washington. WSECU's own join step reads: do you live, work, worship or study in WA? If so you are eligible. The offer is for new WSECU members. The $500 page is marketed at people moving to the Greater Seattle area and lists the five Seattle-area branches, but it states no Seattle-only requirement and the eligibility step it links to is the plain statewide WA test, so we have not narrowed it below WA. The 24-month closed-account exclusion we used to store here is NOT on this offer's terms; it belongs to WSECU's separate $300 version of the same account.
