What Counts as Direct Deposit

Based on community data points and bank terms. Employer payroll is always the safest method. "Mixed" means some users report success but it is not guaranteed.

YES
Chase Business (payroll ACH)
General note: Payroll-coded ACH run from Chase Business checking — a sole prop does this legitimately as a Gusto owner's draw (never a fake W-2). 7 member reports of it working, none of it failing, last confirmed Jun 2026.
YES
Fidelity Cash Management ACH push
The #1 workaround pusher; codes payroll-like at most banks. 6 member reports of it working, none of it failing, last confirmed Jun 2026. Members report it posting as "Payroll".
MAYBE
U.S. Bank Business (payroll ACH)
Business-account ACH, tracker-labeled separately from personal pushes. 1 member report of it working, 2 of it failing, last confirmed Feb 2026.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the current GECU Federal Credit Union checking bonus?

The final offer we tracked paid $300; it is now marked expired.

Does the GECU Federal Credit Union bonus require direct deposit?

Yes. The catalog currently records $2,000 in qualifying direct deposits within 90 days. Confirm the bank's exact definition before applying.

When should the GECU Federal Credit Union bonus post?

The bank does not provide a dependable posting estimate in our current record, so keep the account open until payment arrives.

Full Requirements

Open a GECU share account with a one-time $10 deposit, which is what membership requires, then open a new GECU personal, youth or senior privilege checking account. Receive one or more qualifying direct deposits totalling at least $2,000 within 90 days of opening, and maintain a $500 average daily balance for those 90 days. A qualifying direct deposit has to come from an employer or the government. Transfers between GECU accounts, transfers from external financial institutions, mobile deposits, person to person transfers such as Zelle, and branch or ATM deposits do NOT count, which rules out the usual ACH-push workaround. After the 90-day qualification period the $300 lands within one business day. Business and second chance checking accounts are excluded, and it is one bonus per member per checking account. Closing the share or checking account within 180 days costs a $20 fee.
